The Program

Localbusiness is estimated to spend almost $100 million dollars each year on coupons. Through the use of our innovative do-it-yourself templates, the tremendous cost of using an out-of-state coupon company can be drastically reduced.

As discussed in The Boomerang Project, these saved dollars can be turned into discounts for customers and increased revenues for businesses -- not to mention the side benefit of keeping the money in the local economy, as discussed in .

Our Discount Center -- being FREE of charge to both businesses and consumers -- can cut out the huge marketing costs of these expensive coupon giants. These savings can result in increased  discounts for consumers and lower costs for businesses.

The Grapevine Discount Center uses both (1) Coupons and a (2) a Discount Card to provide these savings. You might want to read the section in our Guide on Why Our Program Is Unique.

Coupons

Since coupons are both endemic and familiar to consumers, we offer them as part of our Discount Center menu. In setting up your FREE Coupon Program you might want to read the section in our Guide on How to Use Coupons Most Effectively.

Discount Card

The Discount Card has major advantages over coupons, among them:

  1. It is FREE to all parties. Its relatively low costs are being privately funded as a public service.

  2. You need not clip coupons. Few customers store printed coupons. Thus, they receive them when they are NOT ready to buy and usually don’t have them at hand when they ARE. The alternative of organizing them in advance and carrying them with you is usually quite burdensome. Our Discount Card is all you need carry.

  3. You need not pay up front.  Many coupon programs require you to pay in advance and then download a certificate. Often the certificate is not delivered for up to two days (no spontaneous dining there). If you decide not to use the certificate after purchasing it, you must go through another hassle to claim a refund, if a refund is even available. Our Discount Card allows you to shop or dine wherever and whenever you want. If you change your mind, you will not have spent one iota of on the on the intended purchase.

Offers That Work Best

The most effective offer by far is the straight percentage discount with limited conditions -- and the higher the percentage, the better. Many merchants may think that higher discounts eat up too much revenue. However, the converse is generally the case, unless the margin is very low. Higher discounts are powerful customer magnets, and can attract new customers, many of whom will stick after the discount is reduced or ended -- which can be done very easily with our do-it-yourself program.

The discount should be deemed a marketing cost, which, unlike traditional marketing costs, are not paid until they generate revenue since they are directly and exactly related to revenue.

Explore the monster coupons programs, which many merchants embrace They offer 50%-off coupons, and then pay the coupon company out of the net 50% collected. Yet, one such coupon company generated $3 billion (with a “b”) in revenue from these high-discount coupons.
Since you do not pay for participating in our Coupon Program, your marketing costs are limited only to the discount offered -- which can be revised by you in just a few minutes .

To help merchants appreciate the benefits of higher discounts, we give top position to coupons that give percentage discounts in descending order of the percentage.

Mutual Support

The Grapevine supports its merchant members in several ways:

  • By providing, at nominal cost, window decals to show your participation in the program. The decals have the added benefit of encouraging a window shopper to come in because “everyone like a bargain"¬† and perhaps to choose you over your competitors.
  • By building up a co-op database that will benefit all merchants by enlarging the customer base that receives notices of their offers. This is done in part by encouraging merchants to provide sign-up sheets for customers.
  • By providing a free ad in the Grapevine, as appreciation for a merchant’s cooperation, for each 100 customers who sign up.

Using a somewhat oversimplified example, if each of 1,000 merchants generates 100 listings for database, each will be able to market its discount program to 100,000 potential customers.

  • By giving priority position in the listings to merchants who sign up the most customers.
